Tabernash resident, Dusty Olson won the 50K race in the men’s division and Courtney Dauwalter was the female winner during the Hideaway Trail Run on Saturday, September 3 in Winter Park.

This was Olson’s first time running the race.

“I had stomach issues during the race but felt strong,” he said. He didn’t walk at during the race except to stop and puke, he said. Despite recovering from Lyme disease and only starting training in May, he was happy with his race.

Race Director Tyler Tomasello said he received positive comments all day about the race and the course.

“It is so important for our town that all the people see these trails,” he said.

While blue skies and white puffy clouds ruled most of race morning, dark clouds moved in with rain, thunder and lightening in the afternoon.

“We held one runner at the Twisted Ankle aid station,” Tomasello said.

After the half marathon and 50K racers finished many hung out at Hideaway Park cheering finishing runners of the three races.

“We are a family. We love each other,” said Tomasello. “We are all staying and hanging out having a good time. It makes my heart smile.”

Tomasello presented Grand County Search and Rescue a check for $1,500 from donations received from racers and spectators.
