Hockey action heats up at Kremmling’s Chuck Lewis Ice Skating Rink
The Kremmling Cattle Kings Major A midget team hosted Grand Valley (Grand Junction) for two Rocky Mountain Youth Hockey League games Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Chuck Lewis Skating Rink in Kremmling.
The puck dropped at 8 a.m., temperature -10, ice very crunchy. The Cattle Kings would drop this contest by a score of 4-7, though the game is under review for Grand Valley using an ineligible skater.
Gregory Doudna, Louie Farrell, Stephen “Alaska” Tubbs and Travis Potts each scored a goal for Kremmling. Assists were made by Potts, Matt Johnson, Tommy Gamblin and Jacob Hange.
Cattle Kings net minders Ricky Gamblin and Cory Burr faced 20 shots on goal.
The Cattle Kings prevailed 4-1.
Stephen Stubbs scored off a Travis Potts’ assist in the second period. In period 3 at 10:04 Gregory Doudna goes top shelf over the goalie’s right shoulder for the score, with a double assist to Ben Kraus and Kyle Potts. Then at 10:34 bang, bang ” somebody stick a fork in this team, they’re done ” scoring for the Cattle Kings was Jacob Hange, with a double assist to Travis Potts and Tyler Florguist. Finishing the scoring was Kyle Potts with Stephen Stubbs and Tyler Forguist assisting. Ricky Gamblin was between the pipes for the Cattle Kings facing 13 shots.
“It’s clear from watching this game, and seeing all the assists that the lads are passing, passing, passing, which equates to good team hockey,” said coach Ed Motz after the game.

Sunday evening the Kremmling high school-age team hosted the North Park Moose to a fun spirited scrimmage. Next home game for the Cattle King Midgets is at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 against Steamboat Springs.
The Cattle Kings Squirts will begin their home season at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. The Cattle Kings Bantams will be at home Feb. 7 and 8.
The motion sports figure skating club rescheduled to 5 p.m. Saturday Jan. 24.
