Junior bike club fine-tunes skills at Granby Ranch

GRANBY —Bike Granby Ranch is updating its bike trails and has some of the premier trail makers in Colorado, Single Track Trails, creating new trails. They are currently in the process of building a new trail, which will be a green-rated downhill trail to compliment a new junior coaching program the resort will be starting for the first time this year.

The new junior bike club is starting this summer season and is aimed at teaching kids, ages 10 to 17, some of the finer points in downhill mountain biking, getting kids off of the couch and out into the woods, according to Jamie Wolter, bike park manager for Granby Ranch.

The program includes eight days of coaching from Adam Larochelle, the lead coach for the program. The program will accept kids of all ability levels. “We are hoping for kids who have done some bike riding, but maybe not downhill,” Wolter said.

On top of the coaching, kids will receive a summer pass for the lifts so they can ride anytime during the summer, a bike to be used during the coaching sessions, 50 percent off rental bikes during regular hours, and 50 percent off of coaching during regular park hours.

The cost of the summer program swings in at $299. “We are trying to make it super affordable and to give kids a reason to get off the couch and out from in front of the tv to take advantage of the great things in their backyard,” Wolter said.

For more information on the new program, parents are asked to contact Wolter by emailing him at jwolter@granbyranch.com.
