Lady Panthers, Miyauchi qualify for state cross country meet

The Middle Park High School girls won the Class 3A Region 3 cross country championship on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Clement Park in Littleton.

Coached by Jim Courville and Courtney McCrea, the Lady Panthers were led by Samantha Berggren, who won the race in 18:43.

Finishing in 10th place was Amelia Clancy in a time of 21:15. A trio of Middle Park runners Samantha Miyauchi (21:27), Grace Knight (21:35) and Seraphina Smith (21:42) then finished in 14th, 15th and 16th. Sydney Markle rounded out the finishers for Middle Park as she

recorded a time of 24:44.

Because Middle Park won the team title, all six Middle Park girls will run at the state meet held this weekend in Aurora.

For the boys from Middle Park, Tabor Miyauchi qualified for the state meet due to his 13th place finish. Miyauchi finished with a time of 17:49.

The Middle Park boys finished in 11th place. Completing the scoring for the Panthers were Garrett Whitford (20:04), Joe Rupp (20:14) and Marcus Curran (22:58).

The state meet will be held at Arapahoe Fairgrounds, 2560 E. Quincy Ave., Aurora. The 3A boys are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and the 3A girls are scheduled to start racing at noon.
