Middle Park High School track season marked by top individual efforts

The track season for the Middle Park High School Panthers is past the halfway point and it has been highlighted by numerous top individual performances and solid team finishes at several track meets this spring.

The girl tracksters for the Panthers finished first at the Joe Shield Invitational meet in Kremmling, they finished second at a meet hosted by Weld Central and they grabbed third-place finishes as the Fort Morgan Invitational and the Pow Wow Invitational at Frederick High School.

Samantha Berggren has led the team in scoring by placing well in the running events from the 100-meter dash to the 1600-meter run. At the Joe Shields Invitational, she won the 100-meter and 800-meter runs. Also finishing first at that meet were Cheyenne Hickox, who won the 100-meter high hurdle event, Quincey Pedersen who won the high jump and long jump, and Elsa Krieg, who won the shotput. Krieg also finished second in the discus.

At Weld Central, Berggren had a fine afternoon as she won the 100-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter and 1600-meter races. Katy Mulligan won the pole vault and finished second in the high jump. Hickox was third in the 110-meter high hurdle event and Pedersen finished third in the high jump and the triple jump.

In the meet at Fort Morgan, Lihla Clancy was second in the pole vault and Kelly Allen finished third in the high jump. Pedersen snared a second place in the high jump and Berggren won the 200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter and 1600-meter races.

Berggren had another fine meet at Frederick, winning the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter and 800-meter runs while Krieg won the shot put and finished second in the discus.

On the season, the top performers for the Middle Park Panthers girls team have been Kreig in the shot put and discus, Seraphina Smith in the 3200-meter run, Allen in the long jump, Mulligan in the pole vault, Hickox in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdling events, Pedersen in the high jump and long jump and Berggren in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter and 1600-meter running events.

Coach Christine Dubois-Miller is the Middle Park Head Coach for both the boys and girls team.

The Middle Park boys team finished in fifth place at the Weld Central meet. The top performer for the day was Sam Little, who won the 300-meter hurdle event and finished second in the 110-meter hurdle race. Patrick Hutchins finished second in the pole vault while his teammate Marc Schmidt finished in third place. The 4 x 800-meter relay team of Duffy Gooder, Mitch Steffen, Conner Nicklas and Taber Miyauchi finished in third place.

At the Joe Shields Invitational, Ben Shipman finished second in the high jump while the 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 200-meter teams finished in third place.

The top performers for the Panther boys have been Shipman in the high jump, long jump, triple jump and 400-meter events. Sam Little has the top performances in the 110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and 200-meter races. Miyauchi has the top times in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs while Hutchins has the top height in pole vault and Joe Rupp has the longest throws in shot put and discus.
