MPHS nordic team race in Frisco for first race of the season

The Middle Park High School Nordic racers and coaches Travis Fuqua and Sarai Reed traveled to Frisco for their first race of the season on Saturday, January 9. Temperatures were cold but the snow conditions were great. The boys had a great showing in the 5k skate with the team placing 4th out of 13 teams. Logan Miyauchi finished first for MPHS placing 6th overall with a time of 17:10, followed by Theo Loo in 8th with a time of 17:25. Elliot Shaw came in 19th, Mark Simmons in 23rd, Ian Carver in 33rd, Liam Fuqua in 41st, Kyle Ciccarelli in 44th, Jensen Hill in 46th, and Wil Cleveland in 49th. All these boys qualified for the state skate race that will be held at the end of the season. Jake Kacik, Jeremy Peterson, Alex Law, Andre Law, and Isiah Callarman rounded out the team finishers.
Sierra Smith led the MPHS girls with a 23rd place finish in a time of 22:38, followed by Rowen Gallagher in 36th with a time of 24:32, and Emily Jensen in 39th. All three of these girls qualified for the state skate race. Darby Howard, Lizzy Barker, Sarah McClain, Raelee Granger, Alyssa Petersen, Mackenzie Deplata, Katlyn Cimino, and Jesse Hoyhtya also had strong finishes.
The team continues to train at Snow Mountain Ranch and will be traveling to Minturn Saturday, Jan. 16 for a classic race.
