Panther boys basketball team ran its record to 8-3
Grand County CO Colorado
The Panther boys basketball team ran its record to 8-3 with a victory over visiting Lake County on Tuesday.
Bouncing back from a tough 56-54 loss to The Academy on Saturday, the Panther defense once again stepped up and held the visitors to only 34 points.
It was a cold shooting night for the Middle Park team as they struggled on offense and were down 8-5 at the end of the first period. Shooting continued to be a problem as the half ended with the Panthers up only 16-14.
But in the second half the Middle Park boys turned up the heat with full court pressure that was too much for the visitors and quickly built a 10-point lead.
The fourth quarter was a repeat of the 3rd and the Panthers finished strong, winning 48-34.
“Defense is the name of the game for us this season,” said Coach Shawn McElroy after game. “Our offense really struggled tonight, but fortunately our boys showed why we have given up the fewest points in the league so far this season. Our press really turned the game around.”
McElroy also credited the hard rebounding by Johnny Stensvad, Sam Little and Ben Eaton as key to the win.
