Panther hoop team wins 5th in a Row
Grand County, CO Colorado
League wins over 13th-ranked Pinnacle and visiting Platte Canyon during the weekend ran the Panther winning streak to five and extends their overall record to 6-2.
An exciting 50-49 win over league powerhouse Pinnacle on Thursday was a come-from-behind victory. The Panthers fell behind early by 15 points, but rallied to close 37-36 by the end of the third quarter.
In the second nail-biter finish of the year, the Panthers led by one point with 4.9 seconds on the clock when Ben Eaton stole the ball to preserve the win.
Once again it was stingy defense that held the Timber Wolves well below their 63 points per game average that was key to the Panther victory.
Coach Shawn McElroy praised his Panthers saying, “This team has great heart. Even when we were down early, our team never lost its confidence and kept up the defensive pressure. We have great senior leadership and believe we can compete with anyone.”
On Saturday, Middle Park hosted the Platte Canyon Huskies and quickly took over the game. Holding the Huskies to only four points in the first half, the Panthers dominated all facets of the game and cruised to a 37-28 win.
The Panthers, resting their starters for nearly the entire second half, saw outstanding play from Connor Dolan, Steven Kentfield, Henry Southway, Riccardo Zanin and Kane Hutchinson. Coach McElroy said he was particularly pleased with the strong inside play of sophomore Jace Linke who scored 7 points and had 6 rebounds coming off the bench.
