The lady Panthers volleyball team lost a heartbreaker Friday during Regional playoffs in Granby.

Middle Park’s road to the state volleyball championships ended abruptly Friday evening after losing a playoff match to Sterling. The day started out well for the lady Panthers who defeated The Vanguard School (TVS) in regional play in quick succession. The Coursers fell to Middle Park 13-25, 11-25 and 18-25 in three straight games. “We came out with fire and intensity in our first match against The Vanguard School,” said Middle Park Head Coach Kate Lapham. “Our team played aggressive and consistent and made very few errors. After that first game, there weren’t many doubts that we would beat Sterling and advance to the State Tournament.”

After defeating TVS Middle Park reset for their second set of regional matches, against Sterling. The lady Tigers proved too much for the Panthers who fell in three straight games, 25-21, 25-11 and 25-20.

“I think that while sitting for over two hours to wait to play Sterling in the Finals, the nerves and pressure got the best of our players, and we came out flat and timid against Sterling,” continued Coach Lapham. “We made too many errors and were one step late to everything. I think this is a great learning experience for the girls to know what it takes to make it to the State Tournament and how you can’t have an “off game” and expect to come out with a win in post-season play. Overall, we improved a lot and had a very successful season, ending with a 19-6 record. I’m really proud of all that the girls have accomplished this year.”
