With the holidays upon us, consider giving the gift of fitness this year. The fitness tools featured this week will keep giving all year. The key to deciding upon the ideal fitness gift for your loved one is to have a clear vision of where they are on their fitness journey, empowering them to continue moving forward with fun and effective fitness tools. Many of these equipment choices come with a free instructional video online.

°Resistance tubing – purchase a single tube for as little as $6 or a set of various resistance levels for $25. A good companion gift is an assist-strap (around $7) for tethering tubing to door hinges.

°Kettlebells – these are more costly, but you can purchase a set of 10-pound kettles for around $60, not including shipping.

°Stability balls – priced from $25 to $55, depending on size, these balls are versatile and easy to ship. There are dozens of exercises for stability balls, but instruction is essential.

°Medicine balls – depending upon the weight, medicine balls may run $24 to over $100. Purchasing two or three different increments and styles will provide lots of variety.

°Versa Discs – these are pillow-like discs costing around $46 for two. They’re excellent tools for balance and stability training, and can also be used as an actual pillow when lying supine to help keep the cervical spine in alignment.

°Foam Roller – around $20, rollers are a wonderful gift for just about anyone, with the exception of those with fibromyalgia or advanced osteoporosis. Self-myofascial release is such an integral part of training programs.

°High Step – a great step platform for a little under $100. It’s approximately half the length of a traditional step, and comes with four risers enabling you to use step heights from 4-12 inches. Super for standing and seated training, as well as muscular strength training and cardio.

°Air Rope – simulates a jump rope experience without worrying about enough vertical height or tripping on the rope. They’re great cardio and coordination tools costing around $25.

°Yoga straps and blocks – wonderful tools both for yoga/pilates and traditional stretching. Blocks are approximately $11 per block and straps cost around $10 for a recommended 8-foot strap.

°Gymboss Timer – These timers cost $20 and are useful when timing intervals.
