It’s exciting to see improvements to the mountain bike trails over the last few years. Just last week the reroute of WTB was completed. This creates singletrack from the top of WTB near D4 to the low point on WTB. This reroute also connects WTB to Akima’s Way, which then connects you to the Town of Winter Park.

Also new in the same area is the reroute of the Sunset Pink Trail. This reroute creates singletrack from an old road, aka road to trail conversion. Incorporated in this project are trail features to challenge and allow riders to play on the trail. This is a great example of building a trail for a multitude of abilities and experiences.

There are new trails in the Idlewild area as well. In the last month the Town of Winter Park has built or rerouted:

• Serendipity (connects Yankee Doodle to Idlewild)

• Upper Yankee Doodle (aka Arrow Trail which connects Yankee Doodle to Idlewild)

A new section of Crosstrails takes the upper section of the trail off of the old road and onto new singletrack near the woods.

Tips of the week

Many trails contain fairly tight switchbacks. In order to climb them :

• Look ahead

• Accelerate slightly, this will help maintain momentum and keep you on the outside of the turn (better traction)

• Choose a gear that you can control. Be aware of being geared too low.

• Continue pedaling until you are through the turn.

Take some time to formally thank the Town of Winter Park for its efforts in improving the trail system. You can reach them at Lots of people and agencies helped them make this happen!
