Winter Park racers participate in weekend ski competitions

American skiers won the top spots in the USSA Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup slalom races held at Winter Park Resort on Saturday.
In the men’s slalom, Adam Cole of the University of Denver ski team raced to victory with a combined time after two runs of 1:49.27. His win was earned against a international field of 61 finishers.
Taking the runner-up spot in the men’s slalom was the University of Colorado’s Drew Roberts who posted a race time of 1:50.85. Third place went to John Buchar of Sweden in 1:51.07.
Earning a 15th place in the men’s slalom was former Winter Park Competition Center skier Joshua Bryan who now skis for the University of Colorado. His combined time after two runs was 1:54.37.
Two members of the current Winter Park Competition Center’s ski team earned results in the men’s slalom. Spencer Nelson took 28th place in 1:59.05, and Jacob Anderson placed 54th in 2:07.68.
In the women’s slalom Saturday at Winter Park Resort, Jenny Lathrop of the University of Denver’s ski team was the victor against an international field of 53 finishers. She won with a combined time after two runs of 1:43.75.
Second place in the women’s slalom was taken by Lucie Zikova of the Czech Republic who raced a time of 1:45.38. Poland’s Aleksandra Klus earned third place with 1:46.19.
Two Winter Park Competition Center skiers did quite well in the women’s slalom results Saturday. Chelsea Nova skied to a 22nd place with a time of 1:51.05. Her teammate Molly Leonard was right behind her to finish 23rd with a time of 1:51.15.
Juniors at Loveland
While the senior skiers of the Winter Park Competition Center team competed in the Surefoot Cup on their home slopes, the team’s junior racers were competing at the Loveland Ski Area in the Colorado Jr. Ski Cup last Saturday.
In the men’s slalom, Ryan McConnell of Steamboat Springs won with a combined time after two runs of 1:24.55. The runner-up was Taylor Barkan of USSA West team who raced 1:24.87. Taylor Lynch of Breckenridge placed third 1:25.01.
The results for the Winter Park skiers in the men’s slalom were: 13. Nicholas Stenicka, 1:26.24; 40. Jake Charland, 1:30.50; 71. Hans Berggren, 1:37.24; 82. Tyler Bender, 1:44.39; and 84. Sean Horner, 1:50.55.
In the women’s slalom results during Colorado Jr. Ski Cup on Saturday, Christa Ghent of Summit County raced to victory in a combined time after two runs of 1:34.36. Her teammate Mary Sackbauer took second in 1:37.08. Cassady Roberts of Steamboat Springs was third in 1:37.32.
Earning a place in the top 10 of the women’s slalom was Rylee Burrows of the Winter Park Competition Center team. She raced the event in a time of 1:38.46.
The results for the rest of the Winter Park team at Loveland were: 29. Stephanie Simenstad, 1:42.37; 30. Kelia Zigich, 1:42.53; 31. Erin Niss, 1:42.80; 34. Shayla Foster, 1:44.19; 37. Danice Fark, 1:45.52; 46. Samantha Berggren, 1:48.27; and 50. Kylie Kroneberger, 1:50.81.
