Winter Park skiers finish well in Junior Ski Cup races at Beaver Creek

Several of the alpine ski racers of the Winter Park Competition Center team earned top results in the Colorado Junior Ski Cup races at Beaver Creek last weekend.
The junior racers competed in the slalom on both Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2. The Beaver Creek Colorado Junior FIS Series races featured some of the state’s best young ski racers.
In Friday’s slalom for men, two of Winter Park’s skiers raced to top-10 finishes.
Winter Park’s Sean Horner raced to a third-place medal with a combined time after two runs of 1:22.97. His teammate Nicholas Zeller placed fifth in 1:24.74.
The winner of the men’s slalom on Friday was Hig Roberts of Steamboat Springs with a time of 1:21.72 against a field of 34 finishers. The runner-up was Taylor Lynch with 1:21.96.
Also racing for Winter Park in Friday’s slalom was Hans Berggren, who posted a time of 1:34.92 for 22nd place.
The competition continued Saturday with more men’s slalom races. Once again, the Winter Park team put another of its ski racers in the top 10 of the results.
Winter Park’s Sean Horner raced to a fifth place in Saturday’s slalom. He made two runs down the course for a combined time of 1:18.51.
The winner of the men’s slalom was Mark Miller of Summit, who raced a time of 1:16.68 to place first against a field of 51 finishers.
The results for the rest of Winter Park’s men in Saturday’s slalom are: 30. Thomas Gulden, 1:26.37; and 40. Hans Berggren, 1:31.41.
Three of Winter Park’s women raced to top-10 finishes in Friday’s slalom.
Skiing to a fifth-place finish was Winter Park’s Rylee Burrows, who earned a combined time after two runs of 1:22.18. Her teammates Sarah Williams placed eighth in 1:23.56, and Stephanie Simenstad was 10th in 1:26.67.
The winner of the women’s slalom on Friday was Corrinne Rotter, who outskied the field of 35 finishers to finish with a time of 1:18.88.
The results for the rest of Winter Park’s skiers in Friday’s slalom are: 14. Tracie Kroneberger, 1:28.23; 21. Samantha Berggren, 1:32.65; 29. Danice Fark, 1:39.54; 31. Christina Feilitzsch-Hanley, 1:41.19.
The Colorado Junior Ski Cup continued Saturday with another women’s slalom. Once again, Winter Park placed two of its racers in the top 10 of the results.
Winter Park’s Sarah Williams skied to a sixth-place finish after earning a combined time of 1:28.68 after two runs down the slalom course. Her teammate Rylee Burrows finished ninth with 1:28.96.
The winner of Saturday’s slalom was Steamboat’s Shane McLean who posted a time of 1:24.88 to take first place against a field of 38 finishers.
Three of Winter Park’s skiers were not far out of the top 10. Placing 12th was Shayla Foster with 1:33.17 while Stephanie Simenstad skied 1:33.64 for 13th place. Their teammate Kylie Kroneberger was right behind them in 14th place with 1:33.87.
Also racing in the women’s slalom for Winter Park were Tracie Kroneberger who finished 23rd in 1:38.14, and Danice Fark who skied a time of 1:39.79 for 27th place.
