Wolford Mountain’s Open Water Fishing Contest won by repeat champion
Despite some blustery, rainy weather, anglers were doing their best to catch the biggest fish during the 5th Annual Wolford Mountain Reservoir Open Water Fishing Contest held last Saturday, June 7.More than $2,000 in cash and door prizes were up for grabs in this years contest, which ran from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.The 2008 contest had a good turnout of anglers of all ages. There were 111 entrants, including 28 children who were registered. Prizes were awarded based upon the total weight of two fish caught by a registered angler. The winners of the adult division are:1st Place, Gary Whiteside of Evergreen, 3.8 lbs., $6002nd Place, Jody James of Kremmling, 3.6 lbs. $3003rd Place, Russell Whitten of Craig, 3.4 lbs., $2004th Place, Kelvin Stehle of Craig, 3.2 lbs., $1005th Place, Wes Bishop of Kremmling, 3.2 lbs., $50.Gary Whiteside, who won first place on Saturday, was also the winner of last years open water fishing contest on Wolford Mountain Reservoir.In addition to the adult winners, the 2008 Wolford Open Water Fishing Contest also sponsored a Kids Division.The winners of the Kids Division in last Saturdays contest are:1st Place, Alyssa Espinosa of Leadville, 3.0 lbs.2nd Place, Casey Lewis of Denver, 2.4 lbs.3rd Place, Caleb Martinez of Lakewood, 2.2 lbs.4th Place, Jacob Kampmann of Castle Rock, 2.0 lbs.5th Place, Garrett Miller of Kremmling, 1.8 lbs.Jeff Miller, who was the chairman of the contest committee, praised all those who helped make possible this years contest. The 2008 Wolford Mountain Reservoir Open Water Fishing Tournament was a great success, Miller said. It was successful thanks to the generous donations by the following businesses for door prizes: Hotel Eastin, Kremmling Chamber of Commerce, Base Camp Cabins, Quarter Circle Saloon, Park Avenue Hair, Moose Caf, Bob’s Western Motel, Rocky Mountain Bar & Grill, West End Liquor, Wolford Campground, Shake ‘n’ Burger, Red Mountain RV Park, Wolford Boat Rentals, and the Fishin’ Hole.Special thanks goes to Colorado River Water Conservation District for their great facilities, and Dan and Debbie Murphy from the Fishin’ Hole for all their support and efforts. And a big thanks to Fling Construction from Leadville and All American Awards from Colorado Springs for sponsoring the Kids Division with trophies.
