Springs DA seeks to charge 14-year-old as adult
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – A May 3 hearing will be held to determine whether a 14-year-old boy will be tried as an adult in the shooting death of the boy’s brother.
Daniel Gudino was 13-years-old when prosecutors say he shot and killed his 9-year-old brother, Ulysses, at their home last May in an attack that also wounded the boys’ mother.
Deputy District Attorney Shannon Gerhart requested the hearing, which follows months of psychiatric evaluations of Gudino.
If charged as an adult and convicted, Gudino would be the youngest first-degree murder defendant in Colorado to serve adult prison time in more than a century.
