Strong Effort Not Enough for Panther Football Team
October 13, 2010
The Middle Park High School Football team was outmatched by the No. 6-ranked Faith Christian Eagles last Thursday night in Granby.
Middle Park held Faith Christian’s potent offense several times, but the Eagles were able to convert four 4th down opportunities that broke the Panthers’ back and they went on to a 37-6 win.
“We put them in a position that they have not been in all year,” said coach Troy Schmidt. “Unfortunately, we were unable to stop those 4th down conversions.”
The Panthers were able to drive into the Red Zone three times, but could only convert one of those on a 3 yard touchdown run by senior Marc Schmidt, who ended the evening with 14 carries for 51 yards. Junior Brian Macchione led all rushers with 11 carries for 59 yards while junior Sam Little added 52 yards on 12 runs. Junior Adam Weaver had two rushes for 6 yards and sophomore quarterback Johnny Stensvad completed 3 of 10 passes for 35 yards.
The Panther defense was lead by Little with 12 tackles, 10 of which were solo.
“Sam is playing ferocious defense and is all over the field,” said Schmidt.
Macchione and sophomore Steven Kentfield added 11 tackles, and Schmidt made 7 tackles with a fumble recovery. Weaver had 5 tackles and sophomores Connor Jennings and Henry Southway also had 5 tackles.
“Henry has been doing an outstanding job flying to the football in his new starting position on defense!” said Schmidt.
Middle Park High School will look to improve on their league record as they travel to Aurora Public Schools Stadium to take on Bishop Machebeuf High School this Saturday, October 16th at 7 p.m.
