A structure fire in Winter Park on Thursday led to a water main break and the closure of Vasquez Road for the majority of the day Friday.

Around 9:50 p.m. Thursday, multiple agencies responded to a fire on Van Anderson Drive, according to Fraser Winter Park Police Chief Glen Trainor. The fire was contained to the front porch and front portion of the house, and firefighters were able to put it out within an hour.

No one was inside the structure at the time of the fire and the cause and origin are still under investigation.

Trainor added that there was some fire damage to the front of the house and smoke damage elsewhere.

Following the fire, a fire hydrant on Van Anderson Drive broke, which caused a water main break on Vasquez Road. Vasquez Road will remain closed from Van Anderson Drive to the water plant while the break is repaired.

It is unclear what caused the fire hydrant to break, Trainor said, but the police department will be posting updates on the repairs to its social media pages.

Responding agencies included the Fraser Winter Park Police Department, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, East Grand Fire, Grand Fire and Grand County EMS.
