Susan Anderson – We need to keep Fraser Sanitation District
November 2, 2009
To the Editor:
As a now retired, but 35-plus-year participant in Life in the Fraser Valley which included serving on the Town of Fraser’s first Planning Commission and Grand County’s First Master Plan Committee, as well as owning property within the district, I have had a unique perspective on the workings of the Town of Fraser and the Fraser Sanitation District.
It has also been about 30 years since I found it necessary to publicly oppose the opinion of a friend and long-time-public-warrior-in-arms, Andy Miller.
I will try to make an important point succinctly and memorably and bypass any references to which board is able to enforce its own regulations and which caves in to a developer’s temper tantrum.
If you have enjoyed the view as you have driven down Highway 40 beside Byers Meadow for the past two years, you will love what the town of Fraser does if it is allowed to take over the Fraser Sanitation District.
The Fraser Sanitation District has long enjoyed a reputation for professional operation and fiscal responsibility in a field that is quite complex. For the time being, we need their independent perspective.
I urge you to vote no in order to retain a semblance of checks-and-balances on the government which will determine the quality of Fraser Valley Lives for many years to come.
