Tanker accident could close Berthoud Pass for 2-3 hours

The Colorado Department of Transportation webcam at Mary Jane shows cars lined up at the U.S. Highway 40 closure on the west side of the Berthoud Pass.

Berthoud Pass may be closed a minimum of 2 to 3 hours due to an accident involving a tanker truck.

Colorado State Patrol units are on scene dealing with a gasoline tanker that rolled against a wall on Berthoud Pass, according to Colorado Department of Transportation spokesperson Bob Wilson.

Traffic is being stopped on the east side of the pass at Berthoud Falls and at Mary Jane on the west side of the pass.

The single-vehicle accident occurred in the west-bound lane about three miles east of the summit at mile marker 247. As of 1:15 p.m., the truck remained smashed into the wall with the tank rolled on its side. The driver was out of his vehicle, according to Wilson. He did not state if anyone was injured in the accident.
