Teen Views: New student club promotes positive choices

From Switch 180
Middle Park High School
Grand County, Colorado

Middle Park High School is home to numerous sports, clubs, and student organizations. This diverse community has recently produced a new club called Switch 180. Unfortunately, this student-led club has faced growing opposition since its founding in the fall of 2007. Switch 180 has been the topic of several accusations.

However, such rumors are completely false. Switch 180 has never targeted party goers or attempted to bust any party. Put simply, Switch 180 is, and has always been, a student led club that supports an environment where students promote wellness, fun and positive choices. This mission is not designed to judge, persecute or punish.

Switch 180 members are trying to create a more positive environment in the school community and provide fun alternatives to drugs and alcohol. The group’s goals include fun after school activities, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and creating community building opportunities. As of last year, Switch 180 has organized and hosted a Guitar Hero tournament and an after school carnival.

In the future, Switch 180 hopes to initiate after school open gyms, provide after school snacks and hot various other events. If you are interested in becoming involved in Switch or you have any questions, please contact Mr. Ruttenberg at Middle Park High School.
