Grand County teens will be dressed up in costumes on Friday, March 4 while skiing at Granby Ranch. They will have blue faces and having a good time for a cause.

March is Colon Cancer month and the first Friday in March is designated Dress in Blue Day.

The color blue is associated with Colon Cancer as pink is associated with Breast Cancer.

In addition to skiing for free, students will earn community service hours and raise money for the Colon Cancer Alliance by taking pledges from family and friends. There will be prizes awarded for the most creative costume and the most ski runs completed. The Grand Prize, a GoPro donated by Mike’s Cameras, will be awarded for the most pledges secured.

The event is presented by Granby Ranch in collaboration with The Colorado Colorectal Task Force and The Colon Cancer Alliance. The purpose of the event, in addition to raising awareness and funds, is to inform and educate the county population about the importance of knowing your family history and symptoms as it may relate to this disease. Unlike many forms of cancer, colon cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable so long as it is detected early. Various forms of screening can do exactly that, so the main message is “get screened”!
