Texas teen accused in kicking rock death

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – A teen accused of kicking a rock off a cliff that ended up killing a girl in Colorado has been identified.

The Coloradoan reported Friday that newly released court records show that he’s 16-year-old Freddie Henderson Bailey III of Katy, Texas.

Bailey has been charged with manslaughter as a juvenile and prosecutors had refused to release his name.

The Coloradoan challenged that and on Thursday Chief Larimer District Court Judge Stephen Schapanski agreed that state law requires that the name of juveniles accused of felonies be released.

Seventeen-year-old Audra Brownell of Sparta, Mich. died in June after being hit by the rock. The coroner said it was an accidental death.

The newspaper said a message left at Bailey’s home wasn’t returned.
