Thanksgiving kicks off free meals for Grand County residents in need

To the Editor:Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we are about to start our 10th year of serving free dinners to those in need in the Fraser Valley. But we also need to say Thank You to all who have supported these dinners in the past year and look forward to having them on board again for the coming months.Winter Park Resort and Snow Mountain Ranch cook a full meal and supply the volunteers for that meal; Safeway supplies all the apple juice for the season; each of the following churches add to the grant each year Church of the Eternal Hills, Lady of the Snow, Lord of the Valley, and St. John the Baptist. The grant buys the main course. In addition they and Advocates, Fraser Valley Lions Club, the Grand County Jewish Community and Mountain Family Center supply the side dishes, desserts and volunteers for an evening dinner. Regina Quinn, dba High Mountain Catering, shares much of her equipment and orders supplies for us. Through the help of all these wonderful volunteers we have served 14,000 meals over the years. The Meals on Wheels program will be reinstated for the Fraser Valley only if there are a couple of people out there who are willing to pick up and deliver to the Granby area. We need to thank Ken Von der Heiden for being delivery man. Volunteers are always welcome. We are here to serve the community. The door is open to all.Dinner Dates are: 11/27/08, 12/5 & 12/19, 1/2/09, 1/16, 1/30, 2/13, 2/27, 3/13, 3/27, 4/10. Do mark your calendars.Joan Von der HeidenSenior Coordinator
