The Heat is On March 17 to 19 in the Fraser Valley

The Fraser-Winter Park Police Department will be participating in the statewide “Heat is On” High Visibility DUI enforcement campaign beginning Friday, March 16 through Monday, March 19.

Beginning Saturday, March 17, Fraser-Winter Park Police Officers will work in conjunction with the Colorado State Patrol to conduct a saturation patrol of the Fraser-Winter Park area and Eastern Grand County.

There will be added officers patrolling, however, there will not be checkpoints, according to Glen Trainor, Fraser-Winter Park chief of police.

Officers will be looking for traffic violations as a way to deter drunk driving over the weekend, Trainor said.

The Police Department and other law enforcement agencies use saturation patrols to deter and detect possible intoxicated drivers.

According to Denver-based Alcohol Monitoring System, which monitors an estimated 14,000 alcohol offenders daily, current statistics show alcohol-related driving arrests skyrocket 25 percent when the St. Patrick’s Day holiday falls on a weekend.

This traffic safety program is funded through the Colorado Department of Transportation, utilizing fines and surcharges that are assessed when a driver in Colorado in convicted of an alcohol-related driving offense.

Drivers are reminded to plan ahead, drink responsibly, designate a sober driver, or use other means of public transportation.

To report a possible intoxicated driver, call 970-725-3549 or *277.
