The Ridge should donate much more to affordable housing

We have been told by County Attorney Jack Dicola, Commissioners, businessman Paul Jones and others that Silverleaf Resorts will be a good neighbor to the surrounding homeowners in Winter Park Ranch and to Grand County. The Ridge at Winter Park Condominium will likely be approved on Oct. 23 by the Board of County Commissioners. Silverleaf Resorts, as part of the approval process of their 15 acres/15 buildings development, is donating $10,000 to affordable housing. If this development was located in the Town of Winter Park, Silverleaf Resorts would be required to pay well over $200,000 in affordable housing fees.

I strongly encourage you to contact Silverleaf Resorts of Dallas, Texas immediately and kindly ask them to donate much more toward Grand County affordable housing to show that they are indeed the good neighbors they claim themselves to be.

Silverleaf Resorts, whose industry is “Hotels and Motels” according to the Securities and Exchange Commission, had a net income (profit) of $14.3 million for the first six months of 2007. Silverleaf Resorts’ representative is Michael Brown and he can be reached at (214) 755-0460 or via email at mbrown@sriae.com.

I ask you to decide whether Silverleaf Resorts and their timeshare vacation development will be a good neighbor.
