The scarecrows are coming!
Scarecrow contest rules
The contest is open to all Granby residents, businesses and organizations. The scarecrow must be displayed within Granby town limits. Displays may not block the sidewalk, nor be placed on public property such as utility poles, lamp posts, etc. However they may be seated on town benches, within reason and with the permission of the business where the bench is located. No nails may be driven into the bench. Scarecrows must be at least 4′ tall and no taller than 7′. They must use, to the extent possible, traditional materials such as clothing, straw, rope, etc. They may not incorporate plastic or rubber masks, electrical/mechanical or audio components, but may include wind driven features.
All entries must be in place and entry forms submitted no later than 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17th.
Contestants are encouraged to leave their scarecrows on display through Halloween, October 31st. Each entry must display its entry number tag prominently on the front. There will be four categories of prizes. Most humorous, most traditional, and most appropriate to Grand County will be decided by a panel of judges chosen by the Downtown Promotions Committee. The People’s Choice Award will be chosen by public ballot between Sept. 17 through Sept. 20.
Ballots will be collected until 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Granby Chamber of Commerce office (475 E. Agate Ave). The scarecrow winners will be announced during Oktoberfest on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Polhamus Park.
