Thornton Police kill suspect during confrontation

THORNTON, Colo. (AP) – Authorities say police shot and killed a burglary suspect after a confrontation in a Denver-area home.

The suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, died at a hospital after the shooting early Wednesday in the north Denver suburb of Thornton.

Police say the suspect was approaching two officers with his hand on a large knife in a sheath strapped to his side, and that he ignored orders to stop.

Authorities say one officer fired a Taser and the other fired a gun. Neither was reported to be injured.

Police believe the suspect had ransacked the home, stolen the homeowner’s van and set fire to the vehicle in a store parking lot. They say he returned to the home, where he confronted the officers who had been called to the scene.
