Time to review County rules and regulations
To the Editor:
A letter from Ronald Hunter stating “Grand County zoning needs a complete overhaul” got my attention. Since his letter, there have been several more letters commenting on this issue.
Rewriting the Rules and Regulations is something I have been encouraging at County Commissioners’ meetings for several years. For example, the Districts need better definition – maybe need to add one for agriculture. The rules and regulations need updating and made appropriate for the different districts. i.e. What should be on Forestry and Open probably isn’t appropriate for Residential. Probably need something addressing the marijuana do’s and don’ts.
Doing a rewrite, however, would be a waste of time if some plan and commitment to policing and enforcing the Rules and Regulations isn’t adopted. Enforcement has not been practiced.
I’m sure all levels of County employees are feeling the effects of recent financial and personnel issues. Hopefully, when these issues are resolved, the County Commissioners and employees will have and should take the time to review rules and regulations for Planning and Zoning, and Building Departments. It might be a good idea to review all county departments. Addressing this would be a way of improving and restoring confidence of full and part time property owners in Grand County and protect property values. We all need to participate and encourage improvements to make this county truly GRAND.
