To annex or not to annex? This is not the question

To The Editor:

As has been stated by many people in the area at the public hearing and in articles written in the paper, the question is whether the terms of the proposed agreement are equitable to the taxpayers of Fraser and Grand County.

After reading the developer’s most recent lobbying efforts in the paper, I’m reminded of the old fisherman’s adage, all fishermen are liars, except you and me, and I often wonder about you. Human nature has us making our points to enhance our views. This still doesn’t clarify the questions.

You’ve listed your benevolent deeds to help our community, admirable. What exactly are you providing the taxpayers whom you are asking for financial help to foot some of the bill for your development? I have many questions about your requests, but the one that is highest on my mind is water. I have yet to hear or find an answer as to how much water is necessary to sustain your project and exactly how much of this water are you proposing to provide?

My understanding is that state law requires a developer to provide proof of provision for needed water for the completed project. It sounds to me that you are asking us, the taxpayers, to foot much of the bill for this expensive requirement, if we can even find enough water rights to do so. Why do we, the citizens of Grand County, want to take our hard-earned dollars out of our pockets and place them in yours?
