It’s impossible not to get caught up in the moment orchestrated at the “Tops of the Rockies” annual fundraiser.

It takes place in the perfect location at the perfect time – in the Grand Lake Yacht Club at sunset.

On Sunday, Friends of the Grand County Library will host the fourth annual fundraiser, an event they spend the entire year preparing.

The Yacht Club is a private club that opened in 1904.

The club donates the clubhouse for this event and it’s a rare opportunity for non-members to see inside.

The word “Tops” in the event title refers to the tops of the several tables designed by local artists. Using a book as inspiration, the artist designs a place setting using motifs, images and themes from that book. The table settings and service are auctioned to the highest bidder.

There is also a silent auction this year that includes a one-week stay at a vacation home in Daytona, Fla., in a gated community, walking distance from the beach, a silver bracelet handmade in Mexico and a Grand Lake boat tour for eight.

The event is a fundraiser for the Juniper Library in Grand Lake and other libraries in Grand County. Last year, the event raised $13,000.

Admission includes light hors d’oeurves a wine tasting by the Republic National Distributing Co. and Grand Lake Wine and Spirits. The wines to be sampled will be a chardonnay, pinot noir and a cabernet from California, and a sauvignon blanc from New Zealand. Attendees will receive an engraved, commemorative wine glass. Wines will also be available for purchase.

Friends of the Grand County Library is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support Grand County’s libraries by raising funds to enhance book materials and program budgets.

Capacity is limited. Tickets are available at any Grand County library.
