Trail Ridge closes for the season
Trail Ridge Road, the popular highway linking the east and west gateways of Rocky Mountain National Park, has officially closed for the season.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, Park officials announced winter conditions, high winds and freezing temperatures mandate the road to be closed for winter. The road reaches an elevation of 12,183 feet with few guardrails and no shoulder. Trail Ridge is currently closed at the Colorado River Trailhead on the west and Many Parks curve on the east, but the Park remains open to visitors.
The closure eliminates one of only a few suitable highways accessing Estes Park as road crews work to repair road damage following September floods east of the Continental Divide.
Road conditions and updates are available by calling the Park’s Information Office at 970-586-1206.
