Transit ski busses give way to shuttles

A few of those big gray tanks that rumble through Winter Park shuttling guests and employees between the town and the resort will soon be replaced by smaller shuttles, said Winter Park town manager Drew Nelson.

First Transit is replacing three of the gray school buses with white shuttles similar to those used by hotels to transport guests to the airport. The town hopes that the new, handicap-accessible shuttles will be less smelly, less noisy and less wasteful as they wind through the back roads of town picking up people. The gray buses often run largely empty, Nelson said.

One small shuttle will service “The Link,” the town’s new companion, on-call route servicing its residential neighborhoods. Another will operate in the residential areas at the resort. The third will be incorporated into The Lift’s regular schedule as needed.
