A tripped circuit switch in Mountain Parks Electric’s Mettler substation in Fraser knocked out power from Winter Park Resort to Fraser for 55 minutes on Wednesday.

Manager of Operations Greg Guthridge said when the transformer failure took place, its power load was transferred to another transformer at the substation. Power in the Fraser Valley is now being supplied by one transformer rather than two while crews from both Mountain Parks and its wholesaler Tri-State Generation and Transmission test equipment to try and determine the cause of the circuit-switch malfunction.

All ski lifts at Winter Park Resort switched to auxiliary power when the outage took place, according to resort spokesperson Jenn deBerge, reporting that skiers were not stranded for very long.
