During Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Granby last week, two people were arrested and nine others instructed to report to the agency’s office in Craig.

On Aug. 8, ICE conducted a targeted enforcement operation outside a residence on US Highway 40 in Granby.

On Wednesday, an agency spokesperson said agents were there to arrest a Mexican national with a final order of removal issued by federal immigration judge. During the operation, agents encountered 10 other people in the country illegally.

ICE arrested a second person from Mexico who had previously been deported, the spokesperson said. The other nine were also from Mexico and had overstayed temporary visas. They were released and told to report to the ICE office in Craig.

The two men who were arrested remain in ICE custody while they await deportation proceedings.

The spokesperson also provided a general statement.

“ICE deportation officers carry out targeted enforcement operations daily nationwide as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to protect the nation, uphold public safety, and protect the integrity of our immigration laws and border controls. These operations involve existing and established Fugitive Operations Teams.

“During targeted enforcement operations, ICE officers frequently encounter other aliens illegally present in the United States. These aliens are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and, when appropriate, they are arrested by ICE officers.”
