Two caught in avalanche near A-Basin

Two individuals caught in an avalanche near Arapahoe Basin around noon Friday, April 1, have been located by the Summit County Rescue Group.

At least one of the individuals was partially buried by the slide, which occurred near Highway 6 across from A-Basin a few hours ago.

Both are being transported down the mountain by toboggan with possible leg injuries, Summit County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Tracy LeClair said.

Flight for Life was called to the scene, but not ultimately needed to transport the individuals as neither suffered life-threatening injuries, LeClair said.

It is unclear what caused the avalanche or what the two individuals were doing in the area when the slide occurred. The names, gender and ages of the two victims have not yet been released.
