2 Grand County projects receive $50,000 each from Henderson Mine Community Investment Fund

The Freeport-McMoRan Foundation announced in a January news release that it awarded $3 million to 66 projects across five states through its Community and Social Investment Funds in 2024.

Freeport-McMoRan Foundation President Tracy Bame stated in the release that the success of these community investments depends on partnerships to help identify opportunities that will strengthen communities for the “long term.”

Since 2019, more than $1.3 million has been invested through the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation Community Investment Fund in Grand and Clear Creek counties. The funds have been awarded to programs and projects that help foster sustainability and reduce dependency on any single industry.

In 2024, the Grand Lake Creative District received $50,000 for its Grand Lake Creative Hub Building project, and the West Grand School District received $55,000 for the sustainability of the West Grand Early Childhood Center.

The Grand Lake Creative District will be using these funds to help build the creative hub, which will be used to continue to provide education and skill development in cultural heritage and arts for hobbyists and entrepreneurs.

Funding for the West Grand Early Childhood Center will be used to develop a viable path forward for the center so that it can continue to serve as a community resource.
