Unfortunately, Obama is what we have to work with

To the Editor:
In response to Don Waldron’s letter to the editor Friday that Obama is “not my commander and chief”:
Make no mistake, Barack Obama is our Commander in Chief. He was elected to that position by the American people. There is reason to fear that he will do great damage to the United States, but he’s what we have to work with.
If conservatives sit around for the duration of Obama’s tenure and act the way the Democrats have for the past eight years by offering nothing in the way of constructive ideas but keep repeating the words “I hate Bush” or in this case “Obama,” then we might as well all be Democrats. What would be the difference?
Conservatives have to present something constructive and hope that, like Bill Clinton, Obama will not really carry out the far-left promises that he made during his campaign. Like Slick Willy, he may effectively ignore the environmentalist crazies and the extreme left wing of the Democratic Party and preside over a successful domestic policy. If he can do this and not destroy the military and signal the world that the United States is a paper tiger, like Bill did, he could turn out to be an acceptable President until we can get the country back on a solid conservative path.
