UPDATE: Berthoud Pass is now open

10:31 a.m., Monday, Feb. 10 — U.S. Highway 40 Berthoud Pass is now open to traffic. The highway opened at 10:29 a.m.

9:20 a.m., Monday, Feb. 10 — The estimated time of reopening U.S. Highway 40 Berthoud Pass is around 10:20 a.m., according to Tracy Trulove of the Colorado Department of Transportation.



Two avalanches triggered naturally closed down the Berthoud Pass highway around 2:30 a.m. early Monday morning, Feb. 10, according to Trulove. The slides took place at mile markers 327 and 240.5. The first avalanche had dimensions of about 10 feet deep and 600 feet wide, the second was around 4 feet deep and 300 feet wide. Crews have been working ever since to clear the roadway.
