A male inmate from the Grand County Jail was taken on a Flight For Life helicopter to St. Antony Hospital in Lakewood Wednesday after a Grand County Sheriff’s Deputy discovered him unconscious at approximately 10:20 a.m. Wednesday morning July 6.

A press release from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) states, “a Grand County Sheriff’s Deputy found a 50-year-old inmate unconscious inside a holding cell at the Grand County Jail from an apparent suicide attempt.” Information from the Grand County Dispatch call log indicates the inmate attempted suicide by hanging.

The press release from the GCSO goes on to state, “Deputies immediately began Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and called for assistance from Grand County EMS.”

After arriving on scene Grand County EMS began performing Advanced Life Support care while awaiting the arrival of the Flight For Life Helicopter. The patient was flown to Denver where he remains in critical condition.

The press release from the GCSO closes with the statement, “We will not be releasing the patient’s name or any further information at this time out of respect for the patient and his family.”
