Grand County authorities have taken multiple individuals into custody Wednesday afternoon following an incident that prompted a response from the Middle Park Emergency Response Team (MPERT), which functions as the County’s tactical response SWAT Team.

Updates from local officials indicate the parties were taken into custody at roughly 2:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, not long after authorities initially responded to the area around 1 p.m.

The incident occurred near Grand County Road (GCR) 50, near Tabernash, and caused authorities to close GCR 50 between GCR 508 and GCR 509 for a period of time.

Details on the incident are still forthcoming but initial reports indicated authorities responded to a possible domestic violence incident. When County Deputies arrived on scene the individuals believed to have been involved in the potential domestic dispute were inside a nearby residence and apparently barricaded inside. Authorities were concerned that one of the parties may have had a gun prompting a response from MPERT.

The names of the parties involved as well as any potential charges they face have not yet been released. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Fraser/Winter Park Police, Granby Police, Grand County EMS and members of MPERT were still on the scene in Tabernash as of shortly after 2 p.m.

An update provided by the Grand County Office of Emergency Management states, “There is no threat to the pubic and the area is safe.”
