Updated: GCSAR, stranded snowmobiler found

Sky-Hi News Staff Report

Grand County Search and Rescue was notified at 6:20 p.m. Saturday of a stranded snow biker (motorcycle with a ski and track rather than wheels) in the Ptarmigan Creek area of Church’s Park west of Fraser. The team responded with eight field ready members, three command staff, and two in reserve and launched into the field at 8:30 p.m.

A party of seven from out of town had been riding in the Church’s Park area, when one member became separated from the group. The group was in communication via walkie talkie and conveyed the subject was approximately two miles from the parking lot and 1,000’ off the trail.

The GCSAR field team located the subject at approximately 9:45 p.m., uninjured and cold but in good spirits. The group was out of the field and back in warm vehicles by 10:45 p.m.

“The team did great tonight,” said Chris Ziegler, GCSAR Incident Commander.

“We had a great response despite the exceptionally cold weather.”
