UPDATED: Missing Dillon man’s body found on Berthoud Pass Sunday afternoon
The body of a missing Dillon man was found on Berthoud Pass Sunday afternoon following a multi-county search effort that was conducted the previous day, according to local law enforcement.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday the body of the 24-year-old Oklahoma native and Dillon resident was discovered inside a vehicle in Grand County, less than one mile from the top of Berthoud Pass. According to officials, the vehicle was parked on the side of Highway 40 at a pullout near milepost 241. A member of the missing man’s family discovered the body and contacted authorities.
Authorities in Grand County spent portions of Saturday searching southeastern Grand County for the missing man after pings of the missing man’s cellphone indicated he was in the area of Winter Park Resort. Officials responded to the area Saturday but were unable to locate him. Additionally, officials said they conducted searches of the parking lot at the top of Berthoud Pass Saturday afternoon and drove past the pullout where his vehicle was later found but did not encounter the missing man or his vehicle.
Local investigators indicated there were no signs at the scene to indicate a specific cause of death. The vehicle the body was found inside belonged to the missing man, according to officials. Authorities said they do not suspect foul play at this time, though an investigation is ongoing. Investigators expect an autopsy to be conducted within the next few days.
