Upper Colorado River enhancement project awarded $1.4 million grant

U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, co-chair of the Colorado River Caucus, has announced that $1.4 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will go to a project aimed at restoring and improving the ecological conditions of local waterways and aquatic habitats in two areas near Granby.

The Upper Colorado River Ecosystem Enhancement Project will receive $1.43 million to restore sections on the Fraser River and Willow Creek near Granby.

These investments were allocated by the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART Environmental Water Resources Projects program, according to the release.

Neguse wrote in the release that local communities are “instrumental in protecting and restoring Colorado’s rivers and streams.”

“This is just another great example of the successful collaboration taking place in Grand County across a wide range of stakeholders that is resulting in very tangible improvements in the ecological health of the Colorado River headwaters,” an official from the Grand County Learning by Doing Management Committee wrote in a statement included in the release.
