The Lake Christine Fire threatened land and structures with an estimated actual value of $606.5 million, according to research by Eagle County government.
The GIS department mapped the areas where mandatory evacuations were issued and calculated there were 1,323 structures. The actual value of the homes and other improvements within the evacuation zones was $445.04 million. The value of the land was estimated at $161.5 million for the total of $606.54 million. Eagle County Assessor Mark Chapin reviewed the figures and verified them for accuracy.
The fire threatened homes with market values in excess of $1 million in the Hill District of Basalt as well as affordable housing in the El Jebel Mobile Home Park.
The average value of a threatened structure was $458,000.
The fire destroyed three houses. They had an estimated combined value of $2.6 million, according to the county.
Mandatory evacuations, which have been lifted, were extensive in Basalt and El Jebel and neighborhoods in between. In addition, numerous residents of subdivisions such as Sopris Village, Summit Vista and Blue Lake fled voluntarily. That would boost the number and value of structures evacuated.
