Vandernail announces mayoral run in Fraser

Two current Fraser board members have tossed their hats in the ring for mayor.

Mayor Peggy Smith has confirmed she will seek re-election, while Mayor Pro-Tem Philip Vandernail has announced his candidacy for mayor.

Smith, who is completing her first term as mayor, previously served for two years as a trustee. She’s also served on the planning commission.

Vandernail, who announced his candidacy via social media on Jan. 7, is about to complete a four-year term as a town trustee.

In addition to the mayoral race, Fraser is looking to fill three trustee positions. Two of the positions are four-year terms and one is a two-year term.

Fraser Town Clerk Lu Berger said the town has not yet received petitions for any of the open seats on the board.

Petition packets are available from the town clerks office Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Petitions must be submitted by Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.
