Vegetable growing takes root in Grand County thanks to expert instruction
September 24, 2009
To the Editor:
Making every attempt to eat locally grown, organic, and seasonal food, Rich Messer and I want to thank (profusely) Morales Farm, the county libraries, and CSU Extension Service for offering the courses and expertise for growing vegetables and fruit here at 8,500 feet.
As we chomp on our fall bounty from the cold frames, we realize we have taken full advantage of Carol and Joe Morales’ generosity: their wisdom, experience, availability, and enthusiasm for our neophyte efforts. But those efforts, especially when I followed carefully the notes from Carol and her classes, have yielded such great results that we have invested in the next step and built an attached greenhouse. Now we need to repeat the courses so we can make the greenhouse produce as beautifully.
What a great gift to the community their combined efforts have been.
