Violent crime can and does happen in small communities like Grand County
November 25, 2008
To the Editor:
As a past member of the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, whose “beat” was Granby, I can say that just because it’s a small town doesn’t mean it can’t happen here. I am now a patrol sergeant with the Anderson County Sheriff’s office and a this is what can happen in a “small town.”
Frankston, Texas, has a population of about 1,200. During a shift change last Thursday, a police officer was seriously injured and a suspect was fatally shot by other officers after he came at them with the injured officer’s pistol.
When I was with Grand County, incidents such as these were not commonplace but they could have occurred and similar events did.
So just keep in mind when you, the citizens of Granby, Winter Park and all of Grand County, go to bed tonight you can sleep well knowing that there are members in the community who work only for the safety of your lives and those of the community.
