West Grand School District accountability committee pleased with public meeting

Special to the Sky-Hi News

The 2011-2012 budget process for West Grand School District began Wednesday, Jan. 5.

The West Grand School District invited the community to attend a District Accountability Committee meeting to offer input on the district’s 2011-2012 budgets. About 45 people attended.

Community members shared their ideas of what they valued most about the district and how best to use our resources for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.

Suggestions for ways to save money included: reducing transportation and or charging for this service, encouraging the use of email to reduce copy paper costs, performing more in-house building and grounds maintenance, evaluating the role of athletics, utilizing volunteers, eliminating some costs related to testing, and researching possible grants.

The District Accountability Committee will use this feedback from the community in its report to the superintendent and the school board.

The next DAC meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 2.
