What do you do? Liven up yourself
April 7, 2011
Each and every moment seems to be filled with entertainment. TV shows aren’t enough: We have TiVos, we have apps to connect to the TV show, we have websites to get more entertainment.
During sporting events, we have half-time shows to keep us entertained. There are cheerleaders, big screens, vendors, a pep band, a mascot – all things to entertain us.
Children are given new toys often to entertain them. How many thousands of apps are there to entertain us? Do we have the inability to entertain ourselves?
“Boring people get bored.” Prevention of boredom is entertainment. Tapping on a screen, playing a game, updating, checking, refreshing – always being entertained.
Do we ever give ourselves a chance to just sit, completely immersed in our own thoughts? Allowing ourselves to travel into deep depths of our thoughts. In French, s’ennuie means to be bored, but curiously. It is reflexive, which means that one bores oneself. No one else, or anything else bores you; you bore yourself.
Shut off your phone, stop playing Tetras, turn off the television and do something. Stop watching other people do stuff on television. Stop playing in alternate dimensions. Live. Do Something. Entertain yourself.
How can we live and do something if we are always being entertained?
