Winter Park athletes compete in Aspen, Deer Valley qualifiers

It’s a big week for Olympic hopeful skiers, with World Cup competitions taking place simultaneously in Colorado and Utah.

Winter Park’s own Joel Hedrick is currently at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, taking on the mogul competition, while Grand County siblings Birk and Svea Irving are in Aspen competing in the Snowmass halfpipe.

Birk got started on Wednesday, taking sixth-place in the qualification round with a score of 85 out of a possible 100.

He’s set to participate in the Men’s Ski Halfpipe Final on Friday at 1 p.m.

Svea Irving also competed in the qualifier Wednesday, finishing the round in 17th place with 58 points and failing to make the final.

Hedrick competed in the Men’s Moguls competition on Wednesday, finishing 23rd with a score of 75.3, and failing to make the final.
